4 nts Lodge at Chaa Creek, 4 nts Chabil Mar

Chaa Creek is a luxury eco-lodge set in stunning rainforest surrounds in the Western Cayo region of Belize and is located on the banks of the Macal River at the foothills of the Maya Mountains.

Your trip includes the choice of a visit to the ancient mayan site of Caracol or Xunantunich as well as onsite activities such as guided canoeing, night walks and early morning birdwalks. You may see (and hear) Howler monkeys at the lodge and there are numerous birds to be spotted including Keel Billed Toucans, motmots and hummingbirds.

The latter part of the holiday provides the opportunity to relax on a beautiful beach at Chabil Mar Villas and enjoy the lively fishing village of Placencia closeby.

Your stay here includes a guided snorkel trip to the Belize Barrier Reef to experience the magnificent underwater world of coral reefs and brightly coloured tropical fish.

Also included is a daytrip along the Placencia lagoon to Monkey River village, where you will search for manatees and other river and mangrove life before taking a walk to search for Howler monkeys the loudest mammals on the planet.

  • 4 nights in an individual thatched double cottage at Lodge at Chaa Creek
  • Choice of two full day tours and one half day excursion from Chaa Creek which could include guided tour of Tikal, Caracol or Xunantunich, venturing into the renowned ATM Cave (Actun Tunichil Muknal), Caves Branch River Tubing.
  • Onsite activities at Chaa Creek including guided early morning birdwalks, guided hikes, guided canoeing on Macal River and guided night walks.
  • All internal transfers, daily breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Beach
  • 4 nights in ground floor partial oceanview villa at Chabil Mar.
  • Half day guided snorkel trip to the reef.
  • Day trip to Monkey River to spot howler monkeys, see wildlife and have local lunch in the village.
  • All internal transfers including domestic flight from Placencia to Belize International.
  • Breakfast is included daily, 1 lunch and 3 dinners, two at the hotel and an extra dinner at a restaurant in the town.

  • Day to Day

    Below is the day to day itinerary.

    Day 1

    On arrival at Belize International Airport you are met and transferred in an air-condtioned vehicle to the Lodge at Chaa Creek via the Belize Zoo. A visit to this local zoo is includd to see many native rescued animals, such as tapirs and jaguars.

    At Chaa Creek enjoy some onsite activities which can include guided canoeing, hiking, birdwalks and nightwalks.

    Day 2 to 4

    Three further nights at Chaa Creek that include two full day trips and one half day trip. Choose from visiting the well excavated mayan ruins of Tikal just over the border in neighbouring Guatemala or less excavated but remote mayan site of Caracol deep in the Chiquibul rainforest. These two sites were once great rival cities thousands of years ago, and are now deep in the rainforest so a visit is accompanied by a backdrop of parrots, toucans and howler monkeys!

    Another choice is to visit the ATM Cave, a must do for the adventurous. The physical trip includes hiking through jungle, wading through streams and swimming to the entrance of a cave that was once used by the ancient mayans for ceremonial purposes. Many artefacts have been left as originally found, including the calcified remains of a young girl, believed to have been sacrificed to the gods.

    Day 5

    Today you will be transferred in an air-conditioned vehicle along the scenic Hummingbird Highway, through the Maya Mountains to the southern coastal town of Placencia to stay at Chabil Mar. This luxury hotel has a gorgeous beachfront, two infinity pools, onsite dining, complimentary use of paddleboards and ocean kayaks.

    Day 6 to 8

    Three further nights at Chabil Mar. Daily breakfast, one lunch and two dinners are included at Chabil Mar. A meal is also included at one of two local restaurants in Placencia village.

    A half day guided snorkel tour is included in your stay at one of the inner cayes (pronounced keys). The inner cayes are picturesque tiny islands dotted with palm trees and with coral reefs close to the beach with a mixture of hard and soft corals for exploring, where you should also see an array of brightly coloured tropical fish, including butterfly fish, angel fish and blue tangs. There is also a chance of seeing turtles, nurse sharks and southern stingrays!

    Your second excursion at the beach includes a trip to Monkey River, travelling by boat along the Placencia lagoon where your guide will point out wildlife such as herons, iguanas, crocodiles and possible a manatee. These shy creatures are endangered but there is a sizeable population in the Placencia lagoon. *tip. lookout for shredded seagrass. A troop of howler monkeys lives in Monkey River and you will take a walk in search of these creatures before heading back to the tiny village of Monkey River to enjoy lunch in a local restaurant.

    Day 9

    Transfer to Belize International Airport by short propeller flight.
